Ways your lactation consultant will help:

• Provide prenatal counseling on breastfeeding risk factors
• Teach positioning, latching and techniques for successful breastfeeding
• Help prevent and manage common issues like poor latch, low milk supply, nipple or breast pain and a fussy baby
• Guide milk expression and storage when separation is needed
• Offer strategies for breastfeeding after returning to work
• Support breastfeeding in complex situations, including multiples, premature or sick infants and special medical needs
• Lactation consultants offer outpatient follow-up support

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and continuing as long as mutually desired by mother and baby. At Lakeside Women’s Hospital INTEGRIS Health, we support breastfeeding mothers with reassurance, education and guidance to help prevent and manage common concerns.

Milk Bar Lactation Support Group:

This group is a safe place for moms to come together and share their breastfeeding experiences and knowledge and to seek advice. It's a great place to make new friends, weigh your baby and get support from our lactation consultant and other new moms.
