Lakeside Women's Hospital

Health Care Designed Exclusively for Women

Single-Site Hysterectomy

Lakeside Women’s Hospital is excited to offer da Vinci® Single-Site® hysterectomy for qualified patients.

During the minimally invasive Single-Site procedure, the surgeon is 100 percent in control of a robotic-assisted system, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the body. The da Vinci system features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system, which enables the surgeon to operate with enhanced vision and precision. Unlike traditional robotic surgeries requiring three-to-five small incisions, the specially designed Single-Site instruments allow the surgeon to perform a hysterectomy through a single incision in the belly button, leaving the scar almost unnoticeable.

Benefits of a Single-Site hysterectomy

  • Virtually scarless results
  • Minimal pain
  • Low blood loss
  • Low rate of complications
  • Fast recovery
  • Short hospital stay
  • High patient satisfaction.

The robotic surgery can be performed in about one hour with a typical hospital stay of less than 24 hours. Doctors Andrea Palmer and Margaret Hall have been specially trained to perform the procedure.

Considering a Hysterctomy?

Many benign (non-cancerous) conditions can affect a woman’s reproductive system, including the uterus, cervix, ovaries and fallopian tubes.

Common benign conditions include: fibroids, which are growths in and/or around the uterus; endometriosis, which occurs when your uterine lining grows outside the uterus; adenomyosis, which occurs when your uterine lining grows into the wall of the uterus; and pelvic prolapse, which is the slipping of the uterus, vagina and/or bladder.

If your symptoms are severe, your doctor may suggest medicine, lifestyle changes or surgery. Surgical options will depend on your exact condition, symptoms and overall health.

At Lakeside Women’s Hospital, we recognize that women facing surgery often can’t afford the luxury of a lengthy recovery. That’s why we’ve invested in state-of-the-art robotic hysterectomy surgery technology. Today, the vast majority of gynecologic conditions that require surgery can now be treated effectively without a big incision, and with less pain.

Recovery times are now measured in days rather than the usual weeks required with traditional surgery.

If you have been putting off surgery, it’s time to ask your doctor about robotic surgery at Lakeside.
